Promotion Product Feedback

For audience feedback on all my media products, I preformed an interview with the type of people the products were aimed at, this primary qualitative research would then show me areas in the products that needed changing to make it more appealing to them.

Music Video First Edit

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xugBguywOrM&feature=youtu.be

This is the first edit of my music video it contains a lot of convention that connect to it's genre, these convention are used throughout all the promotional products.

Cinematography of the video hold stylisations of similar video, like the ones I researched, Rudimental's - Waiting all night, has all handheld camera shots, producing the effect of a story from someone else's perspective also gives the video a documentary feel, enforcing it's realism. In the other video's I researched like The Script and Ed Sheeran's they have character established shot where you focus on the characters and individual identify that the video is going to feature them. In my music video I used this concept, however, I used the establishing shot on the location where the person feature most in the "film", this tells the audience about the main "character" without physically showing them. This is an idea taken from Barthes narrative theory of the enigma code of with held information.  At the beginning of Rudimental's video, there's lots of low angle, handheld shots, throwing the audience straight into the action, producing pace, along with the busy street sounds, it engages the audience to the video. At the beginning of my video I took elements from this but detailed them to the establishing shot of the city, then I used low angle shot to inducing the character who perspective the audience will be following, the shots the vary but maintain a low angle, to show the mass of the city and the drama it holds. Using these  hand held shots it enforces the narrative of this persons journey. Then we move along the track to steady bass beat, I used mid and mid close up shots to establish each character in the video, this adds to the narrative but introducing "characters". Near the end of the Rudimental's video, after Kurt has recovered from the injury, a low angle and panning shots, focuses souly on his success of recovery as he's is able to ride again. I used these shot types with the first "drop" in my song, to produce the same effect as the skater fails to make a trick, but finally succeeds the planning shot shows the process, which then moves into a close up shot, showing his reaction after completing the trick.

Fade Effect

There are a lot of parts within my music video where I wanted to show emotion and a sense of moving time, one way I did this was by learning how to fade to black and inter fade. This process involved using key frames, I selected a place where I wanted it to be black and set the opacity to 0, making a key frame. Then moved along the timeline to a place where I wanted the video to finish fading in and moved the opacity up to 100 making another key frame.

Sun Burst Effect

Instead of repetitively changing the clips to the beat, I wanted to add flare to the video. This part of the video has a build up and shows anticipation, having a increase of light (burst) sort of shows this breaking through. This effect was done in a similar to the fade effect, in that it involved key framing. I selected my clip and then cut consistent sections with the beat, using the slice tool. Then I used the brightness and contrast effect and key framed it at the beginning at each section.

Time lapse and Frame blending

As my music video is all about time and moving through 'a life' using the time-lapse really showed this motion. The first thing I needed was some film that could be time-lapse successfully, this had to be relatively long footage. Then I put this into Premiere Pro, right clicked on it, once it was on the timeline and selected speed and duration option, then condensed it down to a 10 second clip. After this I played it back, but it had disruption lines, so I looked at ways to improve this and I came across frame blending, which smoothed out the clip.
